Duterte signs EO strengthening Philippine Commission on Women structure

President Rodrigo Duterte has issued an govt order (EO) strengthening the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW).

“Considering expanded role and scope of work of the PCW, there is a need to strengthen the organizational structure of the Commission, including its current composition,” Duterte stated in signing EO 167 on April 6, 2022.

Section 1 of the Order supplies that the Commission shall be composed of the next members:

-a Chairperson who shall be appointed by the President and shall serve on a full-time foundation with the rank and emoluments of an Undersecretary
-Secretaries of the departments of Agricukture, Budget and Management, Education, Foreign Affairs, Health, Interior and Local Government, Labor and Employment, Social Welfare and Development, Trade and Industry and the National Economic Development Authorith who shall function ex-officio members; and
-12 members from the civil society representing the labor, enterprise and trade, science and well being, training or academe, indigenous individuals, farmers and fisherfolks, senior residents, individuals with disabilities, media, tradition and the humanities, and youth, and a consultant from the National Council of Women within the Philippines.

Under the brand new EO, incumbent PCW members shall proceed to carry workplace until changed or eliminated by the President.
