Connect ‘da duts! Talk of Isko Moreno as Duterte’s secret bet revived after Bong Go backs out

Speculation is swirling once again that Manila Mayor Isko Moreno is the administration’s secret presidential candidate after Senator Bong Go announced he’s withdrawing his candidacy in the 2022 elections.

Talk that Moreno secretly has the administration’s backing grew louder after the mayor said Tuesday (November 30) that he will welcome President Rodrigo Duterte’s endorsement.

“Di ako tatanggi. Ang pulubi di makakapamili. Kailangan ko lahat ng klaseng tulong, ordinaryong tao, kahit sinong tao, kasi mabigat na laban ito. Malaki ang Pilipinas,” he said when asked about the possibility of being endorsed by the President.

Political analyst Richard Heydarian said Moreno will benefit from Go’s withdrawal as some administration supporters might vote for him.

“With BONG GO reportedly out, this will likely become a THREE WAY race among BBM, LENI and ISKO, who is rallying growing number of Duterte supporters and admin stalwarts…,” he tweeted.

Political strategist Malou Tiquia, meanwhile, took a swipe at Moreno for expressing interest in Duterte’s endorsement after criticizing the President.

“So pagkatapos mong bumanat, tumira at nag hamon ng suntokan, tupa ka ngayon. Boy, yan ang lider? Ikakalat mo na ikaw emmendorse. So sa tingin mo tanga si PRRD? O sad yang I, me, myself ka? Basa basa ng script!” she said.

Some netizens believe it’s only a matter of time before Duterte openly endorses Moreno.

“Agree Isko is open secret candidate of Duterte, connect da duts…..,” said @eprosario.

“The biggest winner here — is isko moreno. That is, IF he can capitalize it. He has already laid down the foundation to be Duterte’s successor. His messaging, and messaging of his surrogates online already speak of continuity,” @zryanverse tweeted.

“Isko’s “slip of the tongue” that he is willing to accept Duterte’s support could be the prologue of an Isko-Duterte alliance. Not impossible,” said @DeusXMachina14.
