Justin Fields reveals Andy Dalton reaction to benching

The Chicago Bears have officially turned the reins over to their rookie quarterback Justin Fields. Head coach Matt Nagy confirmed the starter change.

This is exactly what Bears fans have been waiting for all along ever since they drafted Justin Fields 11th overall. He’s their QB of the future, not Andy Dalton.

But despite Bears fans pitting them against each other, the two have maintained a solid relationship with one another. Fields even shared that Dalton called him upon learning of the news to make sure their bond doesn’t break because of this.

Via Bears insider Adam Hoge:

Andy Dalton called Justin Fields yesterday and told him “it was a great opportunity for me and that he’d be here for it all, for everything I needed,” Fields said.

“He just didn’t want it to be awkward. He didn’t want our relationship to change because of the situation”

Now that’s veteran leadership. Andy Dalton definitely understands the situation the Bears are in. But at the same time, you never know once Dalton gets fully healthy, maybe he can re-take the starting job back. That seemed to be the plan just a few days prior to the announcement.

The Bears quarterback situation is something to monitor over the coming weeks. But for now, it’s Justin Fields’ job to lose, and Bears fans wouldn’t have it any other way.
