Miya Marcano update – Body found & autopsy underway after suspect Armando Manuel Caballero’s ‘suicide’

THE family of Miya Marcano plans to stay in the Orlando area until her autopsy has been completed after her body was found on Saturday.

“The family will not be speaking with any media at this time; however, we will update the media with additional information in the coming days,” the family’s lawyer, Daryl K. Washington, said, according to the Sun-Sentinel.

Police named Armando Manuel Caballero, a maintenance worker at the apartment complex where Miya lived and worked, a person of interest in her death before he was found dead from an apparent suicide in a Seminole County apartment complex.

Her family said through a statement from their attorney on Sunday that they believe her death was “preventable.”

“We want to stress that we believe that her disappearance and consequential death was 100% preventable and we intend to hold those responsible accountable to the full extent of the law,” the statement says.

Remains that authorities believe belong to Miya were found in a wooded area at Tymber Skan apartments, 17 miles West of Arden Villas apartments in Orlando, where she lived and worked.

The 19-year-old Valencia College sophomore was last seen at around 5pm on September 24.

Though positive identification has yet to be made, a purse containing Miya’s ID was found near her body.

    Miya’s father, Marlon Marcano, said he last spoke to his daughter on the afternoon of Friday, September 24.

    The 19-year-old was last seen around 5pm that day at the Arden Villas apartment complex in Orlando, Florida, where she lived and worked.

    She was meant to catch a flight to visit family later that evening but never made it onto the plane.

  • FAMILY LAWYER RELEASES STATEMENT

    The lawyer for Miya Marcano’s family, Daryl K. Washington, released a statement on Saturday night as a vigil was held outside of the teen’s apartment.

    “Learning the news of 19-year-old Miya’s disappearance has been incredibly disheartening. It is every parent’s worst nightmare.”

    “We’re beyond disappointed with the news that she has been found dead and we along with her family, friends, and loved ones mourn for such a beautiful young lady with a promising future.”

    “We do want to thank the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the FBI and everyone who has contributed to finding Miya.”

    “We want to stress that we believe that her disappearance and consequential death was 100% preventable and we intend to hold those responsible accountable to the full extent of the law. Policies must be in place to always protect women…”

  • WHAT’S NEXT IN THE INVESTIGATION?

    The next steps in the case “will focus a lot on the autopsy” and completing the timeline of events in the case, Orange County Sheriff John Mina told reporters on Saturday.

    He added he is confident authorities will be able to piece together a comprehensive understanding of what happened.

  • GRANDMOTHER MOURNS ‘TRAGEDY’

    Violet Deville, Miya’s grandmother, said during a vigil on Saturday night after Miya’s body was found: “It’s been tragic, it’s been horrible, it’s not something we were looking forward for.”

    “Even though some of us had it in the back of our minds, we still had hope that we would find her alive.”

  • PRIME SUSPECT WAS ‘OBSESSED,’ CONTINUED

    Caili said her cousin never shared any of Caballero’s messages with her directly nor spoke of any acts of behavior that made her feel uncomfortable.

    “But she did share some with the two friends who reached out to me, and they’ve shared them with the police,” Miya’s cousin said.

  • PRIME SUSPECT WAS ‘OBSSESSED’ WITH MIYA

    Speaking to The Sun, Miya’s cousin Caili Sue said that Cabellero was “obsessed and infatuated” with the 19-year-old and would constantly text her despite Miya making clear she wasn’t interested in him.

    “A couple of her friends reached out to me as we were on our way to Orlando to find her,” Caili said.

    “They mentioned there was a male maintenance worker at her building that had been making her feel uncomfortable.”

  • WHO IS MIYA MARCANO’S DAD?

    The father of Miya goes by the name DJ Eternal Vibes and is based in Florida.

    The dad said he spoke to his daughter on the afternoon of Friday, September 24, but never heard from her since.

    He posted a plea for help on his Instagram account when she was still missing.

    He wrote in a post: “Mimi, my heart is aching. I haven’t slept or eaten in days. Where are you baby??? Your whole family is here looking for you.”

    “We will not stop until you’re back home. I’m slowly losing my mind over here. Never have we ever gone so long without even a text message to each other.”

    Sadly, Miya’s body has since been found.

  • SUSPECT ALLEGEDLY INTIMIDATED OTHER WOMAN WHO TURNED DOWN DATE

    The prime suspect in Miya Marcano’s disappearance left a note pushing for a date with another woman before allegedly throwing a weight through her window after she turned him down.

    A 24-year-old woman told police she had been in her room late one night at the Sabal Club apartments when someone threw a weight through her window.

    While she didn’t catch a glimpse of the suspect, she told deputies it was likely the building’s maintenance man, Armando, whom she had recently declined to go on a date with and who is the main suspect in Miya’s death.

  • MIYA WAS MEANT TO CATCH FLIGHT

    Miya had been due to fly from Orlando to Fort Lauderdale to visit family later the night she went missing.

    But she never boarded the flight and stopped responding to her family’s messages.

    Speaking exclusively to The Sun, Miya’s cousin Caili Sue said the family has been left “devastated” by the tragic discovery of Miya’s body over the weekend, having previously voiced confidence and hope that she’d be found alive.

    “We are devastated. We are angry and we know our lives have now been changed forever,” Caili said.

    “Everyone has been very somber since the announcement.”

  • WHEN WILL MIYA’S FUNERAL BE HELD?

    Miya’s cousin Caili Sue said her family will stay in Orlando until Miya’s body is released to them.

    They will then start planning funeral services in South Florida once her body has been released to them, Caili said.

    “We are not leaving without Miya,” she added.

    “We will get justice for her once things die down and we bring her home.”

  • CABALLERO WAS ‘A COWARD,’ SAYS MIYA’S FAMILY

    On Monday, September 27, 2021, during a press conference, police announced that Caballero was found dead from an apparent suicide.

    The maintenance worker had been named as a person of interest in the missing teen’s case.

    Marcano’s family accused Caballero of being a coward.

    “I just feel really angry and frustrated because I felt like we had him and then he was gone,” said Marcano’s cousin Caili Sue, in an exclusive interview with The Sun.

    “Some men can’t take NO for an answer,” one person wrote.

    After it was revealed that Armando Caballero, a maintenance worker at the apartment complex where Miya lived and worked, was considered a person of interest, her cousin, Caili Sue, questioned the hiring practices of the complex.

    “They should really consider who they’re hiring because this could’ve all been avoided,” Sue said about Arden Villas Apartments.

    He has represented cases like the 2018 Dallas police shooting of Botham Jean, WESH reported.

    Washington said the family wants to “hold those responsible accountable” in Marcano’s death.

    “Death is something that is very difficult, but what makes death even more difficult is when it’s death that could’ve been prevented,” Washington said.

    “It’s very awful that we have a complex that did not take the proper precautions to assure that this young lady is safe.”

  • WHO WAS ARMANDO MANUEL CABALLERO?

    Armando Manuel Caballero, 27, was a maintenance man at the Arden Villas Apartments where Miya Marcano lived.

    Orange County Sheriff John Mina said Caballero expressed a romantic interest in the teen, but it was not reciprocated.

    Mina said that on September 24, a key fob, which Caballero was known to have, was used to enter the Miya’s home.

    Authorities issued an arrest warrant for Caballero for burglary related to him entering Marcano’s apartment without permission.

    However, he was found dead from an apparent suicide on September 27.
