Aaron Jones gets jersey alteration to hold dad’s ashes

Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones will honor his late father, Alvin Jones Sr., in a unique way during Sunday’s week 4 matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Packers’ Twitter account released images of Jones’ jersey, which was altered by equipment manager Red Batty to include a pocket that contains a pendent that holds Jones’ father’s ashes.

Jones’ father passed away due to complications from COVID-19 back on April 13 after being hospitalized for several days. Jones wrote about his father in the Player’s Tribune nearly a year prior to his death, in a beautifully written article pertaining to fatherhood and the Black Lives Matter movement.

”My dad is the greatest man I’ve ever encountered,” Jones wrote (H/T the El Paso Times). “The things he’s done for me in my life — he’s been there every step of the way. He taught me everything. He showed me how a man’s supposed to be a man.”

The jersey pocket is a wonderful way to honor Jones Sr.’s memory, placed on the left side above Jones’ heart. Jones reportedly lost the pendant briefly while wearing it as a necklace during week 2’s game, but he was able to find it. The pocket will do a much better job of containing the pendant during the game.

Jones also wore a necklace containing a photo of him and his father prior to last week’s game.
