2021 Fantasy Football Week 13 Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em: Running backs

The fantasy football playoffs are right around the corner and owners need to pay attention to these matchups. It’s time to continue our fantasy football series with a breakdown of the running back position.

There are some starting running backs out this week and the backups are solid options to consider for Week 13. This continues to be the most important position to pay attention to because of the number of touches they get per game. There are just two weeks to get your team right. You must find solid running backs for the playoffs or you could be done after Week 15. Let’s take a look at the six running backs fantasy football owners should consider starting or sitting for Week 13.

Fantasy Football Week 13 Start ‘Em

Alexander Mattison – Minnesota Vikings

Every time Dalvin Cook misses a game, Mattison plays very well and shows signs of stardom. He rushes for over a hundred yards while also catching multiple passes. He is a true RB1 this week with Cook out with an injury. Mattison and the Vikings face the Detroit Lions who are 29th against the run. This will be another great game for Mattison where he should earn a ton of carries. Expect him to catch passes out of the backfield as well.

Elijah Mitchell – San Francisco 49ers

Mitchell is coming off his best performance of the season. It’s been two straight games where he carries it 27 times. In Week 12 it resulted in 133 yards and a touchdown. He also caught five passes for 35 yards finishing with 27 fantasy points per ESPN. Mitchell is the clear No.1 back for the 49ers right now and should continue to earn a remarkable amount of carries this week. He faces the 31st ranked Seattle Seahawks defense who are not playing well right now. If you own Mitchell, he should be an RB1 this week without a doubt.

Jamaal Williams – Detroit Lions

Williams’ fantasy value rises a ton with the absence of D’Andre Swift, who is out with an injury. There isn’t much production from Williams this year but he is a great backup running back and has proven to be counted on in his career. He should be a major part of the Lions game plan this week and will earn a ton of carries. I expect him to play pretty well despite going against a solid Vikings’ defensive line. The Vikings rank 22nd against the run. Williams has the potential to play very well and he could benefit a ton of fantasy teams who consider starting him.

Running Running Backs Sit ‘Em

Melvin Gordon III – Denver Broncos

Gordon III remains the Broncos starter but it’s becoming obvious the team wants to utilize rookie backup Javonte Williams more and more. On Gordon’s first carry of the game against the LA Chargers, he seemed to have sprained his ankle. He left the game but returned to carrier the ball an additional 16 times, resulting in a total of 83 yards. Gordon hasn’t reached 10 fantasy points since Week 9 where he found the endzone off just 45 yards. He is too inconsistent to start especially with the fantasy football playoffs in two weeks.

Devin Singletary – Buffalo Bills

The Bills are more of a pass-first team this season. Singletary is the starter but his fantasy production isn’t where it should be. He’s proven to be an elite back but doesn’t get enough carries to be a useful fantasy option. He finished with just 5.8 fantasy points in Week 12 even with the 15 carries. I would bench him as he could hurt your team in an important week.

Damien Harris – New England Patriots

Harris continues to be the starter for the Patriots but they rotate three backs consistently. He doesn’t have much fantasy value but he is capable of playing well in any given week. Harris did find the endzone against the Tennessee Titans but only carried the ball 11 times for 40 yards. He usually catches at least one pass per game but it’s not resulting in much. I wouldn’t start him either this week as he could hurt your team.
